Welcome to the guitar! If you're holding a guitar for the first time, you're already doing something exciting. Learning to play is like starting a brand-new adventure—you’ll get to make music, learn fun songs, and grow your skills day by day.

You don’t need to be perfect. Everyone starts somewhere, and the best thing you can do is keep playing and have fun. This guide will show you the basics: how to hold your guitar, name the strings, play simple notes and chords, and strum your first song.

Ready to rock? Let’s go!

How to Hold Your Guitar

  • Sit up straight with the guitar resting on your leg

  • The neck should point slightly upward

  • Your fretting hand (usually your left) goes on the neck

  • Your strumming hand (usually your right) rests near the strings

Make sure you're relaxed and comfortable!
